As Paul neared the end of his life, he wrote to his “sons” in the faith, Timothy and Titus. The seasoned apostle wanted to encourage and guide these younger evangelists in their respective ministries at Ephesus and on the island of Crete. He desired that they render effective and fruitful service in the Lord’s church and never give up on preaching the truth and refuting error. He also stressed that these instructions on how to lead a Christian life were divinely inspired. Paul emphasized the mercy that God had extended to him and expressed his concern that brethren protect, preserve, and practice the truth.
